HAGAH

Hebrew (hah GAH) means to linger over God’s Word - to whisper it, softly murmur it, to savor and repeat it, letting His truth nourish your soul until it becomes the language of your heart. Joshua 1:8 tells us: “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

According to Screentime Statistics, the average person worldwide, spends approximately 6 hours a day on a screen. There is evidence to show that people are addicted to their phones or other devices. A new term has been added to our vocabulary called “Doom scrolling".” That’s not even mentioning the cost of all our devices. The real cost is what time could have been spent on such as getting outside, exercise, reading a book, creating a project or connecting with people in physical reality.

Yet, how many believers actually spend time in God’s Word - meditating, reading, obeying its instruction and reaping the wisdom written into its pages?

My bible study group is studying the book of Proverbs. It is one of the many books of wisdom from the Word that covers many topics, addresses relationships and uses contrasts such as the wise and foolish to illustrate various points. Wisdom is the guiding principle, a gift from God, that leads one to a fulfilling life. Wisdom does require discipline and effort, but how do we pursue wisdom?

One must first begin with reverence for the Lord in order to gain wisdom. Proverbs 1:7 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Scripture is the vessel that God reveals knowledge, so we need to be reading it daily. Proverbs 2:6: “For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” and wisdom is more valuable than diamonds or gems and “Nothing you desire can compare with it.” (Proverbs 8:11) Finally, the best investment you can make is to pursue wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 even tell us that! “Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!” Why not start reading His Word today? Meditate on it and live what it says. Watch it change your life.
